Why Agentic AI, Why Now?

Agentic AI systems can independently perform complex tasks, make decisions, and adapt to changing contexts. You may already be using them — in research assistants like Elicit and Consensus, or in tools like ChatGPT and Claude for deep research and data analysis. This workshop brings together researchers and practitioners from across disciplines to collectively explore what this means for science and society.

01

Establish a shared understanding of agentic AI concepts, architectures, and current capabilities across life sciences domains.

02

Identify concrete opportunities and barriers to integrating agentic AI into research workflows, from data analysis to academic writing.

03

Explore domain-specific use cases — greenhouse horticulture, bioinformatics, digital health, agri-food — and what responsible deployment looks like.

04

Co-create a shared research agenda that bridges academia and industry.

Key Discussion Themes

Theme 1
Building & Governing Agentic Systems
Designing and deploying AI agents in real workflows — from research to industrial applications.
Theme 2
AI for Research & Academic Work
Practical use of AI across the research cycle — data analysis, literature review, and scientific writing.
Theme 3
AI Governance, Ethics & Environmental Impact
The responsible side of AI — runtime governance, security, privacy, and the societal costs of scaling AI systems.
Theme 4
Domain Applications in Agri-Food and Life Sciences
Sector-specific use cases and what responsible deployment looks like in life sciences domains.

Workshop Agenda

A carefully balanced mix of expert talks and hands-on interactive sessions, designed so that the majority of time is spent doing, not just listening.

13:00
Welcome & Live Pulse Poll Interactive
Organisers open the session. A live Mentimeter/Wooclap poll gives an immediate snapshot of the room's AI experience — results shared instantly to set the stage.

14:15
Break + Breakout Briefing Break
10-minute break. Facilitator explains the Lightning Decision Jam format and participants move to their pre-assigned Zoom breakout rooms.
14:25
Breakout Sessions — Lightning Decision Jam Interactive
4–5 parallel groups work on structured challenge canvases in Miro. Each group applies the same LDJ method to a different theme. AI tools (Claude, Elicit) can be used throughout the workshop for ideation.
15:15
Group Report-Back & Synthesis Interactive
Each group presents a 3-minute summary. Key insights are posted to a shared Miro board and the full group votes using Dotmocracy to surface the top priorities.
